The Food Promotion Unit of the Barbados Agricultural Development & Marketing Corporation gives impetus to the development of an agro-processing industry in Barbados. It provides training and technical assistance to the agro rocessing industry as requested.
The Food Promotion Unit currently has a small staff compliment of eight members.
Currently the Corporation has an inventory of value added products at the incubation stage which require further scientific analysis and experimentation before they are exposed to the market as viable value added products. However, results so far have been very promising.
In the recent past,the department has been involved in experimenting with three local products; namely cassava, breadfruit and sweet potato.
